Creative Director, Impact Collaborative
David Hisaya Asari is a graphic designer and design educator, based in Oakland, California. As faculty at California College of the Arts, his graphic design course focuses on information visualization; additionally, he is faculty for Diversity Studies, and has taught in Graduate Design, First Year Program, and Pre-College. He leads an annual Japan study abroad course. He serves as co-chair of CCA’s Faculty of Color Research Alliance. His design experience ranges from information graphics, exhibition design, environmental design, and wayfinding systems to identity, branding, corporate communications, editorial design, annual reports, books, catalogs, and packaging.
In addition to his own practice, David is Creative Director for Impact Collaborative, a social innovation firm that works with non-profits, corporations, and academic institutions, founded by Andréa Pellegrino. For over a decade, he was as a senior designer at the San Francisco office of Pentagram, working with Kit Hinrichs. President Emeritus of AIGA San Francisco, David continues to contribute as an Executive Officer. He is also an Advisor to the highly regarded San Francisco Design Week. He currently serves as a board member of AIGA Design Educators Community Steering Committee.
