About IDEEC

IDEEC (International Design Education Expo & Conference) is an innovative, dynamic, motivating event that is developed through global design institutions. Our global perspectives, diverse culture, and wide-ranging specialties is what makes our conference unique. We have gathered the best designers in the education community and academia to speak on philosophy, professional practice, social responsibility, and relevant topics that will make a vital impact on the conversation about design and education. The IDEEC inspires designers, educators, and students working in the field of visual communication and information design around the world by delivering relevant programming and benefits in a personal and thoughtful way. Through this event and networking, participants will experience professional and personal growth, and the sharing of the desire and responsibility to help shape aspiring minds in the future.

The first IDEEC (International Design Education Expo & Conference) will be held August 2019 in San José, the heart of Silicon Valley. Each member institution will host the event in turn once a year, during the summer months. This year’s event will take place at Hammer Theatre in downtown San José, California near the San José State University campus. Hundreds of faculty and student groups from international universities are invited to display their design research and projects along with leading industry professionals. This event consists of three parts: a conference, exhibition, and workshop. San José State University is partnering with the Granshan Foundation (non-Latin typography research and practice organization) and AIGA SF(American Institute of Graphic Arts) to host this exciting free conference to share the value and diversity of design education with invited international educational institutions.

Conference

Lectures on design education will be held in the Hammer Theatre by professional lecturers and educators in visual design, typography, information design, UI & UX design, animation, and illustration. There will be 11 keynote presentations and 23 lectures held over the three day conference. It will be a meaningful time to share opinions on practical design and design education through presentations focusing on research projects and examples.

workshop

The workshops are organized into the following four themes:

- Information and UX /UI design
- Poster design

Each will take approximately three to four hours, with lectures and demonstration exercises centering on small group activities. Each workshop session is limited to 25 people and consists of a short theoretical course and hands-on practice. Each session will pay a participation fee of $100 per person, and you will receive a post-training certificate.

Exhibition

Exhibitions will be held onsite at the Hammer Theatre in two formats. The first is the Education Exposition format, which showcases the participating educational institutions' curriculum, educational goals, and specialization cases. The second format is the exhibition of works by individual students and professors in the gallery. A book of all participating educational institutions and works will also be published.
